Where does the intrecciato come from? <\/span><\/h2>

The word <\/span>Intrecciato <\/span><\/i> literally means “intertwined” in Italian. But its history begins long before fashion made it an icon. <\/span><\/p>

Ancient civilizations were already braiding leather straps to make sandals, belts and harnesses. <\/span><\/p>

The reason? <\/span><\/p>

Very simply, by interlacing the skin, the tension was better distributed and the piece gained strength without losing flexibility. <\/span><\/p>

In Europe, during the Middle Ages, saddlery workshops perfected the technique. Leather braiding was functional, durable and adaptable. <\/span><\/p>

Decades later, in the Italy of the 1960s and 1970s, the intrecciato took modern form. <\/span><\/p>

In Italy, <\/span>Bottega Veneta <\/b> perfected this technique in response to a technical limitation: sewing machines could not accurately work certain thick leathers without compromising flexibility, without stiffening them. The solution was manual: cutting thin strips and interlacing them to achieve soft, resistant and flexible surfaces. <\/span><\/p>

What started as a technical solution became a symbol of quiet luxury. <\/span><\/p>

2025 marked 50 years since intrecciato established itself as a contemporary signature in high-end leather goods. <\/span><\/p>
